Have you ever been to a circus? A real, big top circus?
Remember the trapeze artists way up there in the top of
the tent? The gymnast glides up the rope ladder to stand
on the platform. Chalked hands, floodlights, swinging trapeze,
and, oh now the launch. The gymnast sits on the trapeze
and swings. Higher, faster, stronger. It is beautiful but
it is not what he is made for. The gymnast does not move
forward unless, and until, he hangs by his hands and at
just the right time, at the peak of the swing, he lets
go of the trapeze.
What is next? The stunt. Gasp! This is the place of perfect
strength, symmetry, focus and balance. It is the transition
to what is next, the locking in to the strong and capable
arms of the catcher. The catcher is hanging by his knees,
with powerful arms outstretched, perfect timing, and impeccable
balance. He will never fail you. If you look carefully,
you will see the scars in his outstretched, nail-pierced
hands.
Life coaching is for the time when God is calling you to
something new. Your trapeze swing may be perfect but it
has become a rut, and it is not what you were made for.
It is time to let go, and to reach out to the beckoning
hands of the One calling you to a new venture. And what
a stunt that will be! Some may be afraid of heights, but
being on the ground doesn’t satisfy anymore. Or, you
may not be able to see the catcher’s hands but you
know it is almost time to let go. These are the places for
Life Coaching. It is the work of exploring what is next,
of focusing on and reaching your goals, and of embracing
that dream that is inside you even if you are afraid of
falling.
